UNIT 7_EDUCATION_YOUR SPEAKING CLASS

UNIT 7    EDUCATION                                                          APRIL 13 to APRIL 17

This topic reminds me of a song by Pink Floyd called Another Brick in the Wall.
I recommend listening to this song since it has a lot to do with education.
You could watch the video and express your opinion. I am certain it will make you consider this topic and you will be able to come up with relevant comments on education.
It might give you the chance to talk or write about the role of teachers, parents and students as well as your school memories and kinds of schools.
In the following online meeting you could talk about this song.

During our speaking sessions we have been able to consider this topic.

After giving you an overview of Education, you had the opportunity to discuss the topic for one minute.
Most of you had the chance to highlight different aspects that are related to Education.

Let me sum up some of them.

Some students said that education makes the world go round.
Education is key/essential/important. It plays a vital role, doesn´t it?
Thanks to education, everyone can achieve their goals and make their dreams come true.

It allows you to be a better person. You become more knowledgeable. It helps you gain knowledge.

In addition, most of you praised your teachers. You have learnt from them. In fact, you have learnt from everyone because you all believe in cooperative work. Learning from each other is essential if you want to make progress. Everyone has to make their contribution to the whole class. It always has a positive effect on the teaching and learning process.

On the other hand, most of you think that more investment should be made. The Government should invest more money in education.

You all think that discipline is necessary when it comes to education. Students should be aware that they have to study hard. If they don´t do it, they can lose their concentration, misbehave and they usually end up wasting their time.
When a student doesn´t study hard, doesn´t attend classes or doesn´t pay attention, they end up falling behind. As a consequence, they need to catch up with the other students.
It is very hard to keep up with the other students. Sometimes students get frustrated because of this situation. It is a frustrating situation. For this reason, you advise students to study everyday/on a daily basis.
You also advise students not to give up when they are falling behind and they have problems understanding something=They have trouble understanding something= They find it hard to understand something=They struggle to understand something.

Some students talked about their five-year degree/four-year degree

There were students who made a few objections to home education or home schooling.

A number of students considered the resources and equipment that are usually available.

Students are supposed to behave well in class and stay alert. They should not behave badly.

You also said that we cannot forget the role of parents. You are all satisfied with the way your parents brought you up. They provided you with good values.   You are proud of your upbringing. Now you know what is right and wrong. You also know how to control your behaviour. You said that you are aware of the valuable time you spent with your parents and the positive impact on your academic success.

As for your favourite teachers, you think that you owe them a lot.
You used a wide range of adjectives such as helpful, knowledgeable, encouraging and  patient. They were very good at teaching and explaining the subject. They were absolutely brilliant, excellent. You have also focused on particular adjectives like enthusiastic and passionate.

You also talked about deadlines. You had to meet deadlines and hand in your homework.
You advise students not to miss deadlines.

You also said that teachers are exposed to criticism. They are often criticised.

Additionally, you have succeeded in talking about School Systems:

Nursery school or Preschool, Primary School, etc.

You said that most of the subjects you learnt were useful, but you had to admit that some subjects were pointless, useless, you didn´t see the point of studying them.

You have mentioned the school leaving age in different countries and the kinds of schools as well as their reputation.
Another point of discussion was the advantages and disadvantages of:

Online learning
Face-to-face learning
Blended learning
Uniforms: Do you think they should be compulsory?
Single-sex Schools and Mixed Schools.
Boarding Schools

One of the points that made me feel quite nostalgic was your school memories.

You made me think about my school days in the late 70s and early 80s.

Now let me move on to your pronunciation. Practise using the following words:
